Job Description:

  • The chief safety officer should analyze all departments related to the company and make sure that they are adhering to company safety policies.
  • Stability of the ship and its crew members is the prime accountability of the Chief Officer.
  • Handle important safety issues related to the ship and the crew and act as the safety advisor to Masters and ensures that all requirements related to health and safety are met as per the safety standards.
  • On the basis of risk assessments and investigations, the ship safety officer makes recommendations to the master on health and safety matters. It is the duty of the safety officer to lookout for potential hazards and means of preventing incidents on board ship.
  • The safety officer must consider below stated key responsibility areas :
  1. It is the duty of the safety officer to check that all statutory regulations and company safety procedures are complied with.
  2. He must also ensure that all safety procedures are followed as per the set standard and guidelines.
  3. When problems with the safety of operations are detected, the CSO should come up with a plan in order to minimize this risk.
  4. If large safety problems arise, the CSO will have to work to analyze what went wrong and what can be done in order to prevent the occurrence from ever happening again.
  5. The officer should also detect gaps in training needs and determine what needs to be taught to employees in order to create a better safety record by identifying any deficiencies in crew training and advises the Master accordingly and is responsible for effective familiarization of training on board at frequent intervals.
  6. The chief safety officer will need to carry out research in order to determine the best safety policy possible and should account for developments within the organization.
  7. The officer should make sure that all safety policies adhere to guidelines within the organization, in line with the respective law of the land.
  8. The CSO may also be tasked with coming up with disciplinary actions for employees when they are not adhering to safety guidelines.

  • Marine/ Mechanical/Electrical Engineer with minimum 3 to 8 years of experience in repair and services of machineries and engines at Merchant Marine vessels.
  • Full knowledge of all machineries related operations and maintenance in engine room of offshore vessels.
  • Prior expertise in solving technical issues across engine manufacturers such as Yanmar, Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit and Volvo among other engine manufacturers for merchant ships.

Job Description:

  • Liaise with master and chief engineers for troubleshooting on all technical issues related to shipboard machineries and engines.
  • Visit ships for vessel inspections under PMS (Planned Maintenance System) for troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment, machineries and engines onboard vessels.
  • Follow up on all vessel defects and arrange repair.
  • Monitor vessel’s Class status and arrangement of surveys and ensuring timely completion to keep vessel under class at all times and minimize deficiencies from other third Parties.
